A born-and-raised loverboy, DXXN brings a distinctive perspective on romance to Retired Boyfriend, a two-song project built on a fusion of R&B and Afrobeats. The opener plays on the word "Intension," telling a potential love interest to be deliberate about her feelings and apply enough pressure to reawaken his romantic prowess. He insists on meeting halfway: he's already "Falling," and a leopard never changes its spots. Open heart, relaxed mood, smooth fusion.
"It's not like I was dating somebody. I wasn't dating anybody, but I wanted to date. I realized I can't date or be in love with anyone, so I retired on that energy," DXXN says of the project. It flips the stereotype of the guy being the intentional one: here he's on the receiving end of deliberate love, ready to match whatever energy he's given. The loverboy already has the feelings, and all he needs is an excuse to come out of retirement.
